Style Part 2- Final revision

Star Wars- The greatest American space epic of all cinematic history! An unrivaled pop culture

phenomenon! Even in a galaxy far, far away, good style is always in good taste.
Star Wars Style- One can never exclaim too much.

Though on Earth Strunk & White advise avoiding exclamations, in the rest of the galaxy one can

never exclaim too much. Any time you have new information, you must exclaim it.

“I have you now!”

-Darth Vader

“He’s holding a thermal detonator!”

-C-3PO

“Lando’s not a system, he’s a man!”

Hans Solo

“You cannot escape your destiny!”

-Obi-Wan Kenobi

Star Wars Style- Explain, but not too much.

It is important to give one’s audience the information they need to develop their own analysis.

Luke must be told that he has the Force, and is given a general understanding of any unfamiliar

terms.

”The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds

us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.”

- Obi-Wan Kenobi

However, it is up to Luke to learn to how harness and understand the Force on his own.

“May the Force be with you.”

 -Yoda

“Use the Force, Luke.”

-Obi-Wan Kenobi

It often serves one’s personal agenda to only reveal so much.

“The Dark Side of the Force is the pathway to many abilities some consider to be… Unnatural.”

-Senator Palpatine

 (Soon to be Darth Maul)

Before he is to be frozen in carbonate, Princess Leia confesses her love to Hans Solo. His succinct

response:

“…I know.”

-Hans Solo

Darth Vader gives some insight, but just a little-

“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”

-Darth Vader

Star Wars Style- Use an active voice.
In a galaxy crawling with Clones and Siths, one must use an active voice to be heard.

“I don’t know who you are or where you’ve come from, but from now on you’ll do as I say, okay?”

-Princess Leia

“Well, you can forget your troubles with those Imperial slugs. I told you I’d outrun ‘em.”

-Hans Solo (also, an active voice helps you get the girl)

Even the embodiment of evil should use an active  voice.

“You should not have come back!” (To Obi-Wan Kenobi)

-Darth Vader

Star Wars Style- Be clear.
For the most effective communication, it is important to clarify all details.

 “That’s no moon. It’s a space station.”

-Obi Wan Kenobi

“When 900 years old, you reach… Look as good, you will not.”

-Yoda

Star Wars Style- When all else fails, appeal to the emotions.

When nothing else will seem to get you out of a jam, just tug at the heartsrings of your opponent.

Evil tyrants are particularly adept at this.

“You don’t know how hard I found it, signing the order to terminate your life.”

-Governor Tarkin, to Princess Leia

“Luke, you can destroy the Emperor. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny. Join me, and together we

can rule the galaxy as father and son.”

-Darth Vader, upon revealing to Skywalker that he’s the daddy, and bidding Luke to join him in his

evil conquests

Fear is the path to the Dark Side.”

-Yoda

“You’re asking me to be rational. That is something I know I cannot do. Believe me, I wish I could

just wish away my feelings, but I can’t.”

-Anakin Skywalker

“Remember, concentrate on the moment. Feel… don’t think.”

-Qui-Gon Jinn

To communicate with fellow humans, Androids, or humanoids, use the Force- of good style!
